Overview
Itinerary
Dates & Prices

The stars of Kenya all come together in this quintessential journey that takes in Amboseli, the Lakes Region and world-renowned Masai Mara.

After spending a night in Nairobi, you're off and running with your first stop on safari the incredible Masai Mara. There is nothing more thrilling than driving across the expansive plains of the Masai Mara and spotting a lion taking a siesta under a tree or a sleek cheetah scanning the horizon for a potential meal.

A stop in the Lakes Region gets you up close and personal to the stunning Great Rift Valley, a rift that spans almost the entire continent of Africa -- starting in Lebanon and ending almost 6,000 miles south in Mozambique.

Amboseli is a favorite park of many because of its large herds of elephants. These massive creatures are amazingly graceful and quiet as they move across the plains with the ever present Mt. Kilimanjaro in the background.

Travel in 4x4 safari vehicles and stay in First Class lodges. All but two meals are included in your Land price.

For an even more in-depth visit, why not extend your safari into Tanzania?

Day 2  TUE Nairobi | Meals: B
The morning is at leisure.

This afternoon, travel out to the suburb of Karen to visit the former home of Karen Blixen. A walk around the grounds and through the house bring the author's words to life. Then, it is on to the Giraffe Center for a fun and educational encounter with the exquisite Rothschild giraffes. When the center was founded in 1979, only 120 of the Rothschild giraffe remained in Kenya - and they were on the verge of losing their "home" to a subdivision of property. Through careful breeding and reintroduction to the parks, there are about 300 Rothschild giraffes in Kenya today. In fact, you might see them again when you visit Lake Nakuru, one of the four parks in Kenya chosen to have a relocated herd.

Day 3  WED Nairobi-Masai Mara | Meals: BLD
Leaving Nairobi after breakfast, you'll travel towards Kenya's fertile highlands and head down the Rift Escarpment. You'll pass the impressive Longonot earth satellite station as you head across the Valley to Narok, and then on to the Masai Mara for a 2-night stay. Masai Mara Sopa Lodge

Located high on the slopes of the Oloolaimutia Hills, Masai Mara Sopa Lodge was one of the first safari lodges to be built in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve, a reason why its gardens and trees are so lush and mature. All the buildings follow the design of traditional African round houses with conical roofs, and these stretch along the line of the hills with the impressively large public area buildings and the swimming pool at their center.

Accommodation

The lodge has fifty guest cottages divided into two wings to either side of the main public areas. Each of these house two spacious guest rooms with queen and king size beds; mosquito nets; electronic safes; dressing tables; en-suite bathrooms and sheltered verandas that all have views over the gardens and the game reserve beyond.

Six of the cottages each contain two suites with larger bedrooms and bathrooms, and both indoor and outdoor seating areas.

In addition to all of the above, the honeymoon suite has an extremely large, luxuriously appointed bedroom with a king size bed; dressing table and indoor seating area. Its lavishly appointed bathroom contains both a shower and a sunken bath; and its sheltered veranda offers some of the most magnificent views available over the African landscapes below.

Day 5  FRI Masai Mara-Great Rift Valley | Meals: BLD
Leaving the Masai Mara after breakfast with a picnic lunch, you'll travel across the 'breadbasket' of Kenya, past Narok and on to the vast plains on the floor of the Rift Valley. Watch for herds of giraffe and gazelle as you head up the Mau Escarpment, before arriving at Lake Nakuru. The waters here are often coloured shimmering flamingo pink, from thousands of the beautiful birds lining its shores. Enjoy an afternoon game drive in Nakuru National Park before continuing to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Lake Nakuru Sopa

Located on a range of hills that form the western limits of Africa's Great Rift Valley, the newest member of the Sopa family, Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge, offers spectacular views over the vastness of Kenya. Leaving Lake Naivasha behind, enjoy the spectacular views as you travel out of the Great Rift Valley and on through Kenya's highlands. Amboseli Sopa Lodge

Set in 200 acres of private land, and with a rustic charm all of its own, the lodge nestles in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro which, at almost six thousand metres, is Africa’s highest and most famous snowcapped mountain. It was this region of Kenya that, in the 1930s, inspired Ernest Hemingway’s unforgettable stories ‘The Snows of Kilimanjaro’ and ‘The Short, Happy Life of Francis Macomber’ which were turned into more than successful feature films in the late 1940s due to their renowned actors. All forms of wildlife still abound in this wilderness which continues all the way to the Amboseli National Park, an easy twenty minute drive away from the lodge.

While the park conserves over six hundred breeding species of birds as well a host of rare and wonderful wildlife, this is also home to the Maasai people, perhaps the world’s most renowned African tribe.
