Refresh your soul under the beautiful blue skies of Kenya on this stunning safari. There is no better place to social-distance than the sprawling plains of Africa. Wide open spaces. Limited crowds. Fresh air. And some of the most dramatic and awe inspiring sights in the world. You can't beat it.

Mugie Conservancy covers over 50,000 acres, providing wildlife a key access route from the Laikipia plateau, the Matthews Range and Samburu. It is also in the forefront of modern conservation efforts taking hold in Africa. Here, low-impact cattle ranches operate alongside conservation areas, benefitting both the community and the wildlife. And, speaking of wildlife, it is amazing. Elephants and buffalo are all here, along with endemic northern species like Grevy's Zebra, Reticulated Giraffe and Jackson's Hartebeest. The Big Cats are here as well. In addition to game drives, you can take part in lion tracking, meeting the bloodhounds raised to protect the wildlife and more. All while staying at the new and luxurious Mugie House.

After three nights here (and you might want to spend more!) your light aircraft flight takes you to the world reknowned Masai Mara for three nights at Governors Camp. Governors location is magical - the camp is nestled along the winding banks of the Mara River under the trees of the forest. This is a classic tented camp experience with all the amenities you can hope for. Traditional huge canvas tents feature hot and cold running water and flushing toilets. The camp practices the highest eco-standards while providing guests with a 5* experience.

Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives -- or leave the vehicle behind and take a walking safari with one of the experienced naturalists in camp.

Designed with ultimate flexibility in mind, this safari departs daily on request and can be shortened or lengthened to suit your preferences. Adding Tanzania or Victoria Falls -- or even Gorilla Trekking -- are all wonderful options to consider.

All of Governors Camps have been granted Covid-compliant licenses to operate safely. Check-in procedures are now contactless and luggage is handled with gloves and handles wipe with sanitizers. To learn about the full list of procedures in place, visit their Covid page at: Governors COVID-19 Procedures

Mugie House

Opened in April 2020, Governors' Mugie House is the perfect addition to the Governors' Camp Collection, expanding an already diverse array of wildlife locations and activities.

Set out around a hill in the heart of Mugie conservancy, each stone-cottage enjoys sweeping views over the Laikipia plains or the colourful gardens. The interior design brings eyecatching colours and patterns to an airy and expansive landscape, creating the perfect welcoming nature retreat.

Covering almost 50,000 acres, Mugie Conservancy provides a key wildlife access route between the Laikipia plateau, the Mathews Range and the Samburu lands to the north and east. Vast acacia-dotted savannahs, scrubland and olive forests are a haven to a multitude of wildlife in plentiful numbers, including all the big cats, buffalo, elephants and endemic northern Kenyan species such as Grevy's Zebra, Jackson's Hartebeet and Reticulated Giraffe.

Mugie Conservancy is at the forefront of modern conservation models, operating as a low-impact cattle ranch alongside preserving the delicate eco-systems. Cutting edge community grazing and livestock trading programs have engaged the local community as stakeholders in the protection and conservation of Mugie. Also supporting wildlife research by Cheetah and Wild Dog Project and Lion Landscapes, Mugie Conservancy is a successful 21st century model of profitable conservation.

Day 4 & 5  LAIKIPIA | Meals: BLD
Mugie Conservancy offers a myriad of activities by which to enjoy the natural landscape and abundant wildlife, from traditional game drives to bush walks, bush meals and fishing on the Mugie Dam. The Conservancy also operates as a low impact cattle ranch and catalyst for community conservation initiatives. Enjoy a behind-the-scenes look at the conservation activities, including the anti-poaching unit with the team of bloodhound sniffer dogs.

Predator research being carried out has seen lion and cheetah collared for movement monitoring. Head out with the research team to track down the big cats and understand the work being done to prevent human-wildlife conflict. If you're lucky, you might get to meet Tala, the friendly resident Reticulated Giraffe who wanders freely about the conservancy. End each day with a spectacular sundowner from one of many vantage points around the conservancy.
